What a Good Game Review Looks Like

What's Good

  • Instead of just explaining the mechanics of the game, he discusses briefly how they add to, or detract from the experience.

  • He does not shy away from personal opinons...but frames them clearly as such.

  • He frames the game in the context of its time. Games do not exist in isolation, folks!

After reading a handful of reviews on popular sites for this particular game, these basic elements were noticeably omitted. The most well-written review was barely more than just a description of the game's elements and visceral reactions. For game reviews, actual critique should be the standard. Leave the brief overviews to 'First Look' and 'Preview' articles, please.
